2nd practice

Friday had the second practice of the new dojo. We continued to review our suburi and basic movements from the first two katas. The equipment order had come in, and so we were able to use the nice, new white oak bokuto for our practice.
We spent a lot of time working through ipponme (the first seitei kata) and just touched briefly on the second kata "ushiro".
It was a good workout, and again by the end of the class, we had a good start on both the first and second katas and their basic movements.

Classes Begin!

We officially began class on July 3rd. Due to the holiday, there were only a few members, but we got a good start on the basics.
We practiced sitting in seiza, the opening and closing rei, and then lots of basic technique.
We started with bokuto doing suburi exercises commonly found in the first and second katas of the seitei iaido series. Once everybody had a good start on basic stance, and cutting, we began with the very basic movements in "ipponme, mae" kata.
By the end of the evening, along with sore arms and legs, I think everyone had a very basic, but good start on understanding some of the movements of the first kata.
It was a good practice and thanks to all of those who came for the first night!
